Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 23, 2026
1. Who I am
The mobile application SimilarTo: TV Series & Movies (the "App") and the website similartvmovies.com (the "Site") are developed and operated by an independent individual developer — not a company. For anything related to this policy or your data, contact me at vladyslavmorozovwork@gmail.com.
This policy explains what data the App and Site process, why, and what your choices are. The App is available for iPhone via the Apple App Store.
2. Summary at a glance
| Data | Purpose | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous device ID (random UUID generated by the App — not your IDFA, IDFV, name or email) | Track your credits ("tickets") balance and deliver recommendations | My server (EU, Finland) |
| Titles, tags and preferences you select when requesting recommendations | Generate your AI recommendations; not linked to your identity | Processed by my server |
| Advertising identifier (IDFA) — only if you allow tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt | Personalized ads served by Google AdMob | Google (see their policy) |
| App usage events and crash reports (device model, OS version, anonymous per-install IDs — no name or contact details) | Understand how the App is used, diagnose and fix crashes (Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics) | Google Firebase (see their policy) |
| Nickname, avatar, watchlists, likes, settings | Personalize your in-app experience | Your device only — never uploaded |
In short: there are no accounts, I do not know who you are, and I do not store any sensitive personal information on my servers. To have your data deleted, one email is enough.
3. Data I do NOT collect
- No user accounts, names, email addresses or phone numbers
- No passwords — there is nothing to log into
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, camera or microphone access
- No health, financial or other sensitive personal data
- No payment card data — purchases are processed entirely by Apple
4. Data the App processes
Anonymous device identifier. On first launch the App generates a random identifier (UUID) and stores it on your device. This identifier is sent to my server (api.similartvmovies.com) to register your credits balance and process recommendation requests. It is not derived from your hardware, Apple ID or advertising identifier, and it cannot be used to identify you personally. Reinstalling the App creates a new identifier.
Recommendation inputs. When you request recommendations, the movie/series titles you selected, together with optional tags and exclusions, are sent to my server and processed by an AI model to generate your selection. These inputs are not connected to any personal identity.
Search queries. Title searches are relayed through my server to the TMDB catalog to find movies and shows. Queries are not stored in a way that identifies you.
Local-only data. Your in-app profile (nickname and avatar), liked titles, watchlist and settings are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to any server. Deleting the App deletes them.
5. Advertising and tracking
The App shows ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC), including interstitial ads and optional rewarded ads you can watch to earn credits.
- App Tracking Transparency (ATT). On iOS the App asks for your permission before any tracking. If you allow it, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) is used by Google to serve personalized ads. If you decline, you still get ads — just non-personalized ones. You can change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Consent in the EEA/UK. Where required (GDPR), a Google UMP consent form is shown before personalized ads are served, and you can decline or withdraw consent.
- SKAdNetwork. The App includes Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework, which lets ad networks measure ad performance without identifying you.
- Google may collect device information (such as IP address, device model, ad interactions) as an independent controller. See Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses data from partner apps.
6. Analytics and crash reporting
The App uses two Google Firebase services to keep it stable and improve it:
- Google Analytics for Firebase — automatically collects app usage information such as first launch, screen views, session duration, device model, OS version and language, together with a random per-install app instance ID. This helps me understand which features are used and how the App performs. This data does not include your name, email or any account identity (the App has no accounts).
- Firebase Crashlytics — if the App crashes, a crash report is sent containing the stack trace, device model, OS version and a random installation identifier, so I can find and fix the bug. Crash reports contain no personal identity data.
This data is processed by Google LLC on my behalf. See Firebase Privacy and Security and Google's Privacy Policy. Analytics and crash data is retained by Google for limited periods (crash data typically 90 days; analytics identifiers up to 14 months) and is not used to advertise to you.
7. Third-party services
- Google AdMob — advertising (see section 5).
- Google Firebase — analytics and crash reporting (see section 6).
- TMDB (The Movie Database) — source of movie and TV metadata and artwork. Requests go through my server; TMDB does not receive your identity. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- Apple (App Store / StoreKit) — processes all payments and subscriptions. I never see or store your payment details. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
8. The Site
The Site (similartvmovies.com) is a static informational website. It does not use cookies, analytics or trackers. The web server keeps standard technical logs (IP address, requested URL, time) for security and operation, which are automatically rotated.
9. Data retention and deletion
The only data retained server-side is the anonymous device identifier with its credits balance and recent recommendation requests, kept only as long as needed to operate the Service.
Deletion on request. You can request deletion of all data associated with your device at any time — email vladyslavmorozovwork@gmail.com (you can find your device ID in the App's settings, or simply describe your request). Rights owners may likewise request removal of specific data related to their content. Requests are honored promptly, normally within 30 days.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because the App holds no directly identifying data, most requests amount to deleting the anonymous device record — which I will do on request per section 9.
I do not sell personal data and never have. Ad personalization can be fully declined via the ATT prompt and consent form (section 5).
11. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and I do not knowingly collect data from children. Adult content is filtered out of search and recommendations. If you believe a child has provided data through the Service, contact me and it will be deleted.
12. Security and international transfers
All traffic between the App, the Site and the server is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. The server is located in the European Union (Finland). Given the anonymous nature of the data, cross-border transfer risks are minimal; where transfers occur they rely on appropriate safeguards.
13. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at similartvmovies.com/privacy with its effective date at the top. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date.
